I bought the Mammoth Book of Chess over a year ago and have just come back to re-read it. I am very impressed with it. There is so much good stuff in there that I was not ready to understand a year ago. There are hundreds of games featured in this book that have been selected for teaching specific things about chess.

In this thread I will post some of these games.

Combinations examples:

Reti - Tartakower 1910

18. axb5! sacrifices the bishop to create a tactic that moves the rook and produces a passed pawn

Black blunders on move 18. Then follows a two move combination to smash the king's defenses and win:

Combination for White starting on move 24 to take advantage of Black's weakened kingside.

Nezhmetdinov is a god.

Ha, yes I was looking at it thinking "why hasn't black resigned already? He's getting completely torn apart!" :-)

Fun fact to know about Reti-Tartakower, Vienna, 1910 -- the first game you posted.

This game was used in The Queen's Gambit series. Beth Harmon is invited to play a simul in a local chess club.  One of her games is against the President of the Chess Club, Mr. Granz.  She plays the last few moves of this game to beat him (while standing up and looking away from the board).

(Google it for some good takes on it, and you'll also find links that explain all the other famous games that are used during the series)
