Have you ever seen a draw in a game this lopsided?

ouch...

wish I could say it's happened to me, but I haven't been that far ahead. Ever.

I have just played this game, where my opponent almost forced me into a stallmate, even though I had a very great advantage. But luckily he missed it in the end... but I think the idea is clear and interesting anyway...

When you have that much more fire power, do not give the opponent any tempo.

Bjering:  I only looked at the end of the game, but:

45. Kh4 Qh8+ 46. Kg3 Qh2#

or 46. Kh3 Rf3+ 47. Rxf3 Rh2#

After you have a "won game" remember you actually have to win it.  After you have a big material advantage, your risk of stalemate goes up if 1) your opponent has no pawns that can move 2) The remaining material on the board is strong as with a queen or rook 3) especially if he can sac with check.

I have a friend who is a stalemate/draw artist.  Your friend has opened up a whole new realm of paranoia to you--a great service, I think.  Also remember, if you are down take heart, roll up your sleeves and try for a draw!

I do agree with you principaly - and I realy don't know why I gave him tempo (maybe it was very late in the nigth...).

But your sugestion wont hold, because Qh8 isn't a check because of the pawn on h7... Actualy he would have got my queen if I had done that. But I think Qe1+ would have been the right move...

I just remembered another example on and allmost stallmate, where I was the one trying to get it. I think its funny because my opponent gets so affraid of stallmating me, that he overlooks two very simple "mate in one", just to get my rook... in the end I lost. But a less trained player, could have played 41. Rxg... so I think its another fine eksample on how to try and get a draw, when you are outnumbered.

There is an old saying in chess "always check it might be mate!" at 44 instead of the disastrous Ng4 your move was Be3+ and white only has Ke1, then its Nd3# game over.

If you have read the topic by Chess Witch in November 07 "Black list for farty losers" you might argue that Dr_Batata should have done the "gentlemanly thing" and resigned by move 30 when his position was, seemingly, hopeless. However he grinds out a draw with skill and determination. "Where to now...Chess Witch??

Yes you are. f2 is unprotected all Qf2+ does is lose the black Queen. If you read the earlier post by LDSSDL his suggestion is a winner.

My apologies to Kingfisher, I was looking at move 37. At 36 Qf2 is perfectly sound but white has the option of Kh1 or Kh3. Kh1 of course is mate next move but Kh3 stalls things for a bit.

Appologies unnecesary, it was I who made the mistake and wrote 37. when I meant 36.

here's a common (and reeally obvious) stalemate i tried once otb.  Knew i wouldnt get it but funny to try.  he's about 200 points above me, and i think he saw the funny side.
