Hi ghost_of_pushwood! Thank you for your analysis. I have a question about your analysis of 7.de, Qxd1+ 8. Kxd1 Nxe4. Does black not get good attacking chances against the exposed king? For example after 8.Be3, Bd7 9. Bb5, O-O-O and Black gets some nice attacking lines with the rook on the queen file. Also its going to take White some time to free his queen rook. Am I analysing the position wrong?

I am a beginner too that is why I am very disciplined with basic principles.

1. Do not move your Queen too early. Keep her safe and happy until your minor pieces cannot forward safely anymore. She should serve as a support behind the fire line so that your Kn and B are placed safely in tactical squares.

2. You should have kept your e5 pawn and covered it with B. This will keep White's aggressiveness under control. What I learn is e5 e4 & d4 d5 pawns should have at least 3 bodyguard, which are often his fellow pawns, Kn and B. Your e5 pawn is like tip of the spear, it should be sharp but not weak. Following 7. Nh2 should be 7...Bf5 to protect it. Then 8.g4 ...Bg3, your B is now at a safe place but still keeps his eyes on the pawn.

3. Castling. Well, beginners like us know that we should castle as soon as possible. However, we often forget the time limit is  "within 9-10 moves". If you are hurry to develop your piece or fighting for an important square, you can castle later. And, theoretically speaking, the side you castle is often the side you want to attack. The logic is if you want to attack king side, you will mobilize your pieces to that side, which at the same time, protect your king. In this game, I think your opponent is about to castle king side so you should also consider castle king side.  So,  you must find a good place for your B before castling your king. I suggest ...Bd6 or Bc5. Bc5 is better to me because it targets that critical f2 pawn and also deadlock d4 square, which is already controlled by your Q, and Kn. It means that his light square B and Q are trapped for a long time. His development looks really bad to me but you did missed that chance.

I set up your board up to 7Nh2 to demonstrate you what you missed that costed you an easy win. The AI I played with has 1500 rating. The game last about 10 more moves up to the point my pawn queens up and wins the game. However, I just show you up to move 30 because White would resign in reality at this point. We have about the same rating so I suggest you to follow the move made because they are simple and logic. Once you understand my move than put yourself in White shoes and see how you can play back grin.png
