Ok, well one thing is that your analysis setting are bad. You aren't giving the computer enough time to go deep enough. So for example, after move 10, you ask why bxc3 is better than dxc4, and if you give stockfish enough time, it isn't any better. So you are kind of making things doubly difficulty -- first, you are trying to decipher things the computer calls inaccuracies, which is usually a waste of time. Stick to things the computer calls mistakes or blunders. Second, your analysis settings are, as mentioned, not sufficient.
9. . . . re8 is just besides the point. It doesn't really help. Black wants to resolve the situation in the center one of a couple of ways, and if he doesn't, white will do so. For example, black can play against an isolated pawn with cxd4 followed by dxc4. Or black plays dxc4, bxc4 and now black can create the isolated pawn at his leisure, since if white plays dxc4, then bxc3 gives equality by wrecking white's pawn structure. After ...re8, it is white that has all the choices. It is not disastrous, but re8 just doesn't do enough to give white a move and put him in the driver's seat.
11. ...nxe4. You can answer your own question as to why bxc3 is better by working with the computer. It is a symmetrical positon, but black has the extra move. By working with the computer, you can see what that matters.
19. ...f6...I don't really understand it either, but maybe the idea is to prevent ng4 which is the computer's preferred response to 19. ... e4. 19. ... E4 is much more natural to look at imho, and also completely equal after ng4 bxn pxb re8!. Just rxr is clearly bad though because it allows nxr, solving the awkwardness of e4 for white and allowing harmonius development.
That is all I have time for, but my major comments are above - (1) change your analysis settings; (2) focus on mistakes and blunders, not inaccuracies; and (3) learn to work with the computer to understand its lines. Sometimes its not possible and you need human help, but some of these you could have figured out on your own.
Hey folks,
Yesterday I managed a draw against Magnus (age 9). I'm reviewing the game and I'm trying to understand some of the computer recommendations. My questions are in the game analysis below. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And besides the stuff I've listed, any additional feedback is most welcome.
Thanks!
Paul
