Chessbase has the capability of saving files in PGN format, which almost any chess app can read.

Sure, sanj.  If you can't post them here, just send it to me by e-mail in pgn format.  Check out my website (I link to it in the first post in this thread) - if you sign up, you'll receive an email with your free "Chess guide" pdf. Feel free to respond to that email with your game, if that's easiest for you!

I am on the black side of the board and would really appreciate if you could analyze this masterpiece of a chessgame ;-)

Here is a game that I just played. Time control: 15|10

I think I had the advantage almost the whole game and I could not translate it into a victory. What can you tell me about this game? Thanks in advance!

MPageChess

Hi here is a game I would like you to have a look at. This is a 30 min game. I struggled with the closed pawn positioning. BTW the video looked good just need the screen bigger.

  1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d6 3. Bc4 h6 4. d3 Nd7 5. Nc3 up to this point I am just working on a basic opening and developing my pieces. c6 I believe my black is looking to play d5 however I have 3 attackers to 1 defender of d5 so do not see this as a threat. 6. Be3 a5 This move tells me that he is going after my bishop and trying to trap it (…b4 Bb3, a4) so I played 7. a3 to have a safe square to move to. b5 8. Ba2 Qf6 9. O-O This move I feel I spent to long looking at (over 2 mins). Block bringing the Queen out so really made me want to check and re check to see if there was some sort of trap I had missed. I was also looking at the c6 square as a good target now that it was unprotected but could not find a way to exploit it at this time. Ba6 10. Re1 This was to release the pawn from the potential pin and to line up with blacks king g5 11. d4 My attempt to open up the centre I was hoping black would take. g4 12. Nd2 Again I spent over 2 mins looking at this move trying to find a way to get back a piece if I allowed exf3 but in the end moved the knight out of attack and opened a discovered attack on the g pawn. h5 13. f3 According to Chess.com this was my fist blunder. Up until now the analyser had me ahead. I was trying to stop the pawn advance on my king side, however I now see that g3 might have been better. Saying that the computer side d5 was the best move. I see that that would have helped with attempt to control c6. I noticed this on my next move. Bh6 14. d5 c5 15. Rb1 This move was meant as a set up to try and make a hole in the pawn wall with the follow on b4. This would also stop black playing b4 and attacking my knight. The computer said that a4 would have been better. g3 16. b4 Bxe3+ 17. Rxe3 gxh2+ 18. Kh1 I played this move instead of tacking as I thought it could help in keeping lines closed to my king. I also noted that Nf1 could be a good defensive move at some point. a4 19. Qe2 Still trying to open up the Queen side. Qf4 20. Nf1 After Qf4 I could see that if I played Nxb5 Bxb5, Qxb5 I would be leaving my rook unprotected so decided no was the time for the knight move. h4 21. Nxb5 Now I go for my plan to open up the position. Bxb5 22. Qxb5 Nf6 23. bxc5 Kf8 24. c6 I computer said Qc6 would be better here. I did consider this however felt that my Queen would just be chased away. I thought exchanging a pawn for a Knight would be better. Ke7 25. cxd7 Nxd7 26. Rc3 I am now up a peace and wanted to try and put more presser on blacks king. Rhb8 27. Qe2 As I am ahead I am trying to invoke exchanges Rxb1 28. Bxb1 Qc1 I have missed this move. 29. Ba2 Qb2 30. Qc4 Qa1 31. f4 This was my next blunder. By now I was down to 4 mins on the clock and black was still on 17 mins and if I’m honest started to rush my thought process. The computer suggested Kxh2 Rc8 32. Qxc8 Qxf1+ From here I’m just trying to survive and hoping black blunders and not really thinking properly and eventually hands him mate. 33. Kxh2 Qxf4+ 34. Kg1 Qc1+ 35. Kf2 Qd2+ 36. Kg1 Qe1+ 37. Kh2 Qxe4 38. Kh3 Qf5+ 39. Kxh4 Qf4+ 40. Kh5 Nf6#

Hi Blakey. First of all I thank you for analyzing my game and having made a video. It was very instructive and not every day an NM can keep an eye on your games in such detail.
I saw that in the video you had doubts about whether I had considered certain moves. Here they go:

19. Qb6 here I had the feeling that the white queen was in trouble and most likely trapped. It must be said that at this moment I only had 1:50 minutes left. I spent 42 seconds analyzing the option to play Nce5 or Nd4. I did not see a favorable continuation so I played Rg6, trying to attack the king. The play you suggest Nb4 honestly I did not see it.

When I played 22. Qe7 (the blunder where I give the pawn) I only had 38 seconds left (my opponent almost 11 minutes). And from there it isn't that I panicked, it was frustration and since I was going to resign, what followed were movements that I did not think at all. I play bullet and blitz and in fact my ratings in those modes are much higher than my rating in rapid. The reason why the frustration is so much is because I feel that I have been playing many games where I play better than my opponent and in the end I can not transform the advantage into victory and lose. In the games of 15 | 10 I've had a negative streak lately.

That would be.
Thank you very much again, you definitely have a new follower.

Oh ok, thanks for clarifying! That definitely helps me give more tailored advice.

So regarding missing the winning ...Nb4 move, I guess one lesson there is to expand your search for candidate moves in critical positions. You had a feeling that the queen was in trouble in b6, and if you would have taken a look at all the discovered attacks against it you could have found it! Of course, it might be easier to apply this advice in a longer game as opposed to 15/10.

Regarding frustrating - that makes a lot of sense, this is a problem that plagued me even when I was an expert and to a lesser extent even still today! Psychologically, going from a much better position to an equal or worse position is very tough - so much so that a lot of people psychologically give up. The truth is that after you lost the pawn, you're far from lost in that position. You did work the whole game to build up a great position and now it's unclear, maybe it's about equal or maybe you have a disadvantage....but the game's far from over. You're down a pawn, but your pieces are still really active compared to white's and you have some compensation. I know it's hard, but try to stay mentally tough when the tide turns like that and don't give up, a pawn deficit can be overcome!

Just keep playing and familiarize yourself with some openings, it took me about 1 year to pass 1200.
