How Carlsen could have won Game 1 of the 2016 WCC

Why not 8. Queen x Queen Black is forced to forego casting because the Knight at c6 is pinned. By comparison 8.Knight d2 gives a strange position.
Really I don't see anything wrong with 8. Queen x Queen. Stops black from castling giving black a cramped game while White remains fluid.

Well, sending me fan mail was not a complete waste of time for him. When I heard that he intended to send me fan mail, I decided to reach out to him first, and I sent him a letter with some advice for the WCC, on openings, strategy, and various aspects of the game that I don't want to get to specific about here on a public forum. He should receive the letter tomorrow before the game, so we'll see if he's able to use the information to his advantage.
Turns out there was an issue with the mail, and Carlsen just received my letter earlier today. We'll see in a few minutes whether he's able to use my advice to his advantage.
Alas, Carlsen did not take my lessons to heart, and ended up drawing a very much winnable game. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes, looks over my notes again, and does better in today's game.

I have a theory that he wasn't planning on winning this game, but just testing Karjakin's ability

You're reading my mind Bilbo! I wasn't sure wether I should mention it or not, but now that you've brought it up, the note I sent to Carlsen was based largely on my advice in that thread. I did delve a bit deeper into some of my points though, but of course I can't reveal the specifics here.

Yes. Karjakin had pre-move and he had already pre-moved Kd7 regardless.

Actually, it looks like I should have sent the thread about etiquette when losing. But at this point I regret having sent him anything. Apparently my advice went way over his head, and didn't do him any good at all.
I just had a scary thought, what if Putin told Carlsen that Russia would invade Norway if Carlsen retained the World Title ??? It might be up to Carlsen to save an independent Norway !
OMG .... and what if Erna Solberg also told Karjakin that Norway would invade Russia if he won? Then whatever the result, we would have a major global war on our hands!
