Excellent!haha, That is exactly how it feels to me, that's why I try to get everyone out of book asap, so everyone is confused while playing and forces us to be very creative or very careful at calculation, but it's risky.haha

thats why the grob is best

try playing f3 g4, even just once in a bullet or blitz game. If you look at my game history, almost noone plays checkmate even if this is avalible for several moves. the resulting position is very unusal if you survive move 3 as the shock factor is amazing. Particularly if you then inform them they missed mate. Although this might not work at your elo.

i actually find playing something like e6, d6, g6 or b6 on move one to work quite well, with the idea to launch a kingside or queenside pawn storm.

i'm trying to learn kings indian defence too but its complicated.

to answer your question though, any lesser know gambit can be good, particularly as black as physiologically white feels he must capitalize on the position as takes more risks.

throwing pawns and pieces (specifically knights) also helps. I like to create chaos as even if the engine evaluation doesn't approve, players tend to perform below their true strength, trying to work out the position. they know your opening isn't good but they can't work out why in 3 mins if you know what i mean.

lots of pawn moves and knight moves is my chess approach if you like

Playing f3 e5 g4 is very bad advice, lol. It's one of the fastest ways to lose the game at all levels.

In fact, I did take a look at your game history and there is no evidence that playing random moves works well for you. The only opening moves where you are doing well are e4, d4 and e3. Which shouldn't be a surprise because starting the game playing center pawns is better than the alternative options.

Also, don't overestimate the value of shock factor. At your level, any variation will be new and unexpected for your opponents. Besides, these unusual positions are giving you no benefits, because they are equally unfamiliar to you as they are to your opponent. I would recommend not to play too many silly variations.

edit: Playing 1 g4 once is okay, because at least you get a chess.com books achievement for it

edit2: You should add the Buzzfeed video on Hide the Pain Harold to your profile to make it more interesting for the viewers.

that was kind of my point. You should loose but you don't. I did this as more of a challenge rather than being part of my repertoire.

i guess its true at 800 their isn't much shock factor as noone knows what they should be doing but i assume you haven't played bullet. shockfactor is kind of everything, particularly when you have a pet line you learn well.
