I'm pretty sure it's brilliant because it allows your bishop to be taken, as well as adding pressure to a pinned piece. If white takes, you can take back with the queen with check. The king only has one move available, and then you can actually castle queenside to force either mate in 6 or winning the knight. Here is the line:

As far as I am concerned it's brilliant because you're basically threatening to promote your pawn. Even if Black plays Ra1 with the goal of skewering the pawn to the rook you have Rb7+
