Ignore that piece of advice.  If youre not going to give yourself time to think about what you should do, how are you expecting to improve?

I will give u a list of things u should not do:

1) don't study GM games

2) don't study any chess books(except tactics)

3) dont learn opening theory

4) don't learn any advanced endgame technique

5) don't play games longer than 10 min per side.

6) don't play bullet

List of things to do:

1) study morphy games

2) practice tactics

3) opening traps like scholars mate

4) play lots of blitz games

So...you want him to do all 10 things?

Rapid game is best to improve... slow enough to think and learn, fast enough to be enjoyable? Problem with long game here is... opponent might leave waiting, New player get bored and lose intrest?

Blitz is good to learn opening pattern...

Ay Bacon?! i didn't know you had student? Am sure you are good teacher yes? master level analysis...

Am sorry but the Opera Game is very overrated... Morphy was playing a pair of patzer aristocrat who play very silly? Study some Capablanca or Kasparov game instead...

I do not think that the Opera Game is the sole basis for the belief in the potential educational value of Morphy games. Frisco Del Rosario attempted to illustrate chess ideas using many games in A First Book of Morphy.

A more advanced presentation can be seen in Morphy: Move by Move by GM Franco.

Capablanca games, of course, were also mentioned by Soltis as possibilities for beneficial study. I don't know about the idea of a below-1000 player tackling Kasparov games.

For sub 1200 players including myself:

1. Develop pieces first 10 moves do not move same piece twice. No queen rush or blitz attacks, get all your minor pieces out on the center before attacking.

2. Castle early- Get your king to safety, dont let your opponent take the initiative by making checks.

3. Scan the board for undefended pieces but only take pieces if it helps develop your position.

4. Dont blunder material, look at each move before you play it and say if I move here can my opponent take the piece.

5. Dont blunder pieces

6. Dont blunder pieces

7. Stop blundering pieces.

8. Stop blundering.

And 9, Don't blunder?!
