It's better than the checkmates that aren't pleasing
Interesting Checkmate
Nicely played, and I enjoyed your annotations too. It's always better to read the player's thoughts than just "engine said ___ is better" etc. I doubt your opponent would have fallen for that on a correspondence game, but was a pretty checkmate regardless!
Thanks,
What's funny is that I just ran this game through Chessmaster... and I'm surprised with the results. Chessmaster said I made absolutely no errors and it agreed with every move I made in the game.
For my opponent... Chessmaster didn't even have a problem with g3! (which is what I annotated as his blunder). Chessmaster acknoweledges that 0-0 would have been slightly better... but it stated that g3 was not a major error... and white still could have had a reasonable game afterwards.
The only move Chessmaster did not like at all was Kf1 (triggering the forced mate)
If White had made Kg1 instead... his position would still be a tenable one.
This is an interesting game I played online. It's real short (only 16 moves), but I think the checkmate in the end is very pleasing.
