The chess engine says I made a mistake, but if I did what it said wouldn't his king just take my bishop? I win a pawn but lose a bishop.
Is the engine wrong or am I stupid?

You need to look just another move further in the position. If King takes your bishop, you actually get the piece back with an extra pawn and exposing the enemy king! See the moves below: note how bad Black's position is at the end of the line.
When the engine suggests such a forcing move such as Bxf7+ and you don't see the point, I recommend playing the moves in the analysis board so you can see what the engine shows as the follow-up.
