King's Gambit Accepted

This is an actual game that was so horribly played by Black that I am asking for help on my opponent's behalf...lol

Is 3...f6 a real response in any King's Gambit Accepted line?

I would call that a crap defense because of the sacrifice shown.  I played that against a 1700 rated player when I was White and won in less than 9 moves!  Red faces all around.

To answer your first question - no. However 3..f5 is a response. The game continues 4.e5 d5 5.d4 g5 6.h4 g4 7.Ng1 f3 8.Bg5 fg 9.Bxg2 Be7 yada yada yada. Instead of 4.Bc4 you had 4.Ne5! If 4...fxe5 5.Qh5+ Ke7 6.Qe5+ with checkmate on he way. Checkmate still arrives after 5...g6, but I'm sure you can find that. Be on the lookout when your opponent leaves the book. Don't treat the opening as a routine if your opponent leaves the book because you may miss something big. Instead of 4...g4? I suppose Black had 4...d6 but White will still have a big advantage after you recaptured on f4 because of Black's permanently damaged kingside.

 Well said.

If you compare 3...f6 to the more played 3...d6 you can easily tell its a bad move and shouldn't need any reference.

Your oponnent maybe plays the Slav against queens gambit and did the same thing he would have done if he was playing the slav.Tongue out
