Longest individual notation?

50 move rule. Variants may make it possible but it cannot happen in the true game.

It can in daily games as you have to claim a win.

Until a few years ago, games could be infinite since all draws except stalemate had to be claimed which is not mandatory. Now there is the 75-moves rule which is automatic. It multiplies the old "maximum" of about 9500 moves based on the 50-moves rule by 1.5 which gives you about 14000 moves. Forget about what you local game-interface does. They anticipate ruling the world by breaking every chess rule. Always watch their eyes. When they start glowing red, disconnect all electricity

Interesting. I had thought this would go into the ten thousands (I had not calculated the maximal possible number of moves though; maybe it's really 9500 based on pawn moves and piece captures).

The longest notations are required to describe your last move. For instance: exRd8=Q+# (double check-mate). You cannot skip the "Rook" since there would be no way to know what was captured!

Btw, just checked my memory and the max appears to be even lower than I remembered, close to 6000. Which makes 9000 when multiplied by 1.5. Play 1 move per second and you will last just 5 hours when you include the blacks!

When you promote a pawn, it goes without saying that the promoted piece lands on the square the pawn was on. You don’t need to specify that.

You don’t write the + for check if it’s checkmate. Again, it’s implied.

Since we're working with "Qa1xe4+", how about that being a comment-worthy move? That immediately adds two more characters for either "Qa1xe4+!!", "Qa1xe4+??", "Qa1xe4+!?" or "Qa1xe4+?!"

You only have 1 queen so the a1 in Qa1 is implied XD

You can, theoretically, have up to nine queens.

The longest notation for tridimensional chess not normal chess is: 450000.PB1WSQLxQF8BSKL=Q# which is 25 characters its difficult to find notations for tridimensional chess unless you have a tridimensional chess set (and I do) that has the instructions and notations and so using that and everything from this forum I figured this out and if you put every thing into words you get: Move 450000 pawn B1 white side queen level takes queen F8 black side king level promote to queen checkmate and that is 101 characters this is impossible in a real game but it's still a real notation

The 1/2-1/2 isn’t part of the move, it’s like a comment.
