I just played a game against Hoffman Estates High School at 8th board. How could I have played better?  I was white.

17. Rc6 wins the queen with a discovered/reveal check on the black king

you put yourself in a lot of good positions, but didn't take advantage tactically.  You gave away a lot of pieces as well...

Focus on looking at your opponent's threats and doing a "blunder-check" after everymove to make sure you are not hanging pieces. This mainly will come with experience. 

I would also recommend reviewing opening principles such as not moving the same piece twice, castling quickly, etc.
