me vs magnus age 10

From a glance I don't like 13. b5 due to Nc5. But yeah, 13. c5 and white is winning. b4 might still work in this case though because there is not much black can do. 28. Kf1 seems like a waste of a move. Playing f4 here is better as it lets you have more control and lets your king go to f2. If you want I could look at the game more closely and message you.

Which age are you because I am stuck on that level.

white is actually winning after the move 13.c5  @ slightlybelowaverage I do like your idea because my move b4 might have been a little premature.

13.b5!. Where will he move the knight?

Then white wins a pawn after Bxc5 followed by Nxe5 after 13...Nc5

After Nxe5 Nxe4. Now black has a chance. White is still crushing after b5 but the moves you are suggesting give black more opportunities to get back into the game. After c5 its over. There is no need to discuss this anymore anyway since the OP has probably moved past this thread and has forgotten about it.

I would have played theory.

Ok. Rxa8 before Bxc5 and Nxe5 may be better, though there is zwischenzug Nxe4! Then white will just have a microscopic edge.

robertjames_perez

c5 leaves the b4-pawn hanging.

13. h3 was pretty horrible IMO. Giving up space, the pawn, and allowing counterplay. Maybe you got that pawn back, but it opened up his ranks for his rooks.

Also a tip playing an engine: Never trade anything. Engines can calculate endgames so much better because there's less lines to consider.

Okay, there is a lot involved in the game but I think the most important lesson is what happened to black's d pawn.  23...Nd4 creates a weakness in the d4 pawn for black, but you never tried to put any pressure on it.  I haven't gone through the game with an engine, but it seems like white is better if on move 28 or around that point you played something like Nf3 to attack that weakness. The problem here is that it not only is an isolated pawn, but a passed pawn, and can quickly become a serious threat.  In your game, you did nothing to attack this pawn or even blockade it, and this is why you lost

I'd look at the ongoing game between Maxim Matlakov and Gawain Jones for advice on how to handle pawns like that

robertjames_perez

I actually lost against him after being positionally bankrupt in 20 moves!
