My 1st USCF Tourney win!!

I'm very excited to have finally won a USCF tourney. This was an U1400 at the Dallas Chess Club and although I was the top seed in this tourney and played against players around 200 less than me, this is still very hard to do and I am proud of myself to hold it together the entire tourney which I've can't say I've ever done. In fact this is mostly a tribute to all the people who come on this forum and help others with their games. This win was the direct result of those people helping me understand my mistakes. So thanks!! What I'm looking for here is improvements to the games. Most of them were very difficult and I essentially got lucky because my opponents just missed something and blundered the game away. I've annotated these games with my thoughts and ideas throughout. I tried to be honest about my thoughts and feelings during the annotations, so with that said here goes.

Way to go, Adam! That is quite an accomplishment.

And thank you for the discussion of facing kids in tourney - I blew a point in my tourney today because I got freaked out by facing a little kid for the first time.

nice and you were 200 pts (nearly 300) ahead of all the competition.

He already stated that, so why did you feel the need to tell him again?

Sorry I didnt mean any offence I didnt really read the topic just looked at the games and saw the diffrence I said that in all repect of course it doesnt sound that way since its being read online but I mean no offense what so ever.

none taken...I see your a USCF player too with an 1100 ish rating. You know first hand that it's still difficult to beat somebody say around 800 or 900. You have to beat them. They wont just roll over and play dead. In past tourneys I would fall victim to underestimating a lower rated player and lose or draw. Or getting myself all worked up over some mistake or whatever. This time was different and I got it done. Had I played a player in the 1200's maybe it would have been different, but we'll never know. Doesn't matter all that much anyway cuz next tourney I play at Dallas Chess Club is in the championship section which is 1200+. I'll be the little guy getting stomped by the GM's that play there. I may never get the opportunity again to say I won a USCF tourney. It's hard to do.

hey its sorta funny but right now Im in the middle of my districts championship U14 section I got passed round 1 with a win and hoping to do the same as you only it'll be tougher since the top seed is rated 1392 and everyone one else is 1100-1200 and a few 1000ish players.

chessmaster102

o if i do win or even come in the top ten we could have a little match ourselvesSmile.

Do you happen to know about how many members are in the Dallas chess club?

pathfinder416

Congratulations! Even when you have a rating advantage you have to play with some consistency to finish in the money.

dont know...but the tourney numbers vary from week to week. There were 29 in my section U1400, 14 in U750, and 50 in the open section.

On Friday nights the Championship (open) section generally has upwards of 35 people. I'm not sure about a count on the lower rated sections.

That certainly doesn't sound like very many!

It really isn't.

I always heard that was a big club.

Probably. People are too lazy to get out, and play.

do you play otb yourself ?

adamWheatley

it's all chess.coms fault Laughing   I often ask myself why I would want to pay somebody  $20 to spend the entire evening getting beat, away from my family, when i can stay home and get beat on chess.com for free!

Good God, look at my chess rating! The answer should be obvious! The extent of my chess experience consists of what I've done on here.

Congratulations on a nice tournament.   A bit of information on the Yugoslav Attack after the moves  1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6. Be3.  6...Ng4? loses a piece to 7. Bb5+.  After 6. f3 Black can play 6..Qb6 7. Be3 a6 (7..Qxb2 8. Ndb5!) which isn't bad for White, but by playing 6.Be3 you limit Black's options and have less to remember.
