King's Gambit Right? First time ever playing it... and I won!

Niven42

Oh man, you owned that game. Tongue out

phishcake5

Interesting game, congrats.  Guess this means you'll be doing it again;-)

MsCloyescapade

was bishop to c3 wierd? I know it was my good bishop but I didnt feel like playing positionally...

I think Be5 was my best move... also I like he fact that my queen didnt move and held her ground for 17 moves. Almost half of the game

Ummmm

Nice title.

I don't need to tell you the real reason I opened this thread.Embarassed

BirdsDaWord

Clever as always! lol

deadpoetic

Lol ya I couldn't resist opening this thread after reading the title... Right when I read it im like 'wtf? gotta see what thats about'

Sparta

Hmm that's an odd transposition into the King's Gambit from the Bird. Any particular reason why you didn't simply take the e-pawn?

I wanted to protect my king from a frontal attack long enough to castle queen side... lol, I dont know why I just thought Id be exposed if I did that I would have lost all tempo

ayjaraki

Nice title?!

dragondorf

interesting titleLaughing

Chess_Lobster

The transposition isnt weird at all. 1. f4 e5 is the Froms Gambit against the bird, so its not like e5 is a blunder or anything

amac7079

excellent game

Chess_Lobster

Also, you did play a good game so I'm not trying to take away from you, but I think the whole philosophy behind the king's gambit is to generate an attack along the half open f-file.  The point of the gambit isn't to open the file and then run for the hills on the queenside, not bad for your first shot at it though

sstteevveenn

you really need to get your bishop out to c4 in the king's gambit, so you shouldnt have played 4.d3.  I think you should have played either 4.Bc4 lining up on f7, or 4.d4 opening up your dark square bishop, claiming the centre, and leaving room for your king bishop to get out to c4.

MsCloyescapade

ah poop on you... I played great and I held the center just fine

steven wasn't trying to tell u that you played a bad game, he was just trying to point out the mistakes of ur game.... you did make mistakes in your game, I do and will make mistakes in my game, and GM make mistakes and will keep on making them. Don't wanna take my word for it? listen to kasparov.

I'm pretty sure her last post is what we might call a 'joke'

The nice about chess is that there are several ways you can accomplish your goals.  You did just fine on your first try of the King's Gambit.  I play the Bird's Opening a lot and most of the time it gets transposed to the King's gambit when somebody uses the From gambit (e5) against my f4 opening.  In my experience, I am leaning towards the idea on castling at the queen side...because every time I castle on the king side (which turns out to be white's weak side from the defensive point of view), I give my opponent an opportunity for an attack.   Now, I am leaning towards the idea of simply moving my king's rook to f1 to take advantage of that half open file then castle on the queen side.   I use the Bird's Opening/King's Gambit a lot because I need to understand these variations by practice.  Very nice game you played...I enjoyed watching it.

Careful with Cloy people. That is all I will say. Oh, and anytime she thinks she can play KGA with a worthy opponent. Come on. Kiss
