I really liked your first two moves, in the spirit of a reversed Nimzo or Queen's Indian! If 1.e3,e5 then 2.d4 with a reversed French is quite interesting though exd4-exd4 is okay. 3.h4?! was terrible, why commit the same weakening move he does? You aren't going to play g3 obviously and even if you were ...h5 is premature. This pawn is committed and later on could be a hook with which to improve your pawn placement in in endgame via h3-g4, but that's getting ahead of ourselves here.
3...Bg4 he takes advantage of the committal h4 already, can't chase with h3 if the pawn is on h4.
4.d4 is a fine move, but 4.c4! immediately strikes the pawn and threatens to gain white some good activity with either dxc4-Bxc4 or cxd5. 4...c6 is annoying because if cxd4 then cxd4 keeps it symmetrical, but 5.Nc3! adds pressure to the pawn.
4...f6 now your opponent's position is full of holes. Here you want to play Be2 in case of 5...e5 6.dxe5,fxe5 7.Nxe5 and your queen doesn't hang yet the horribly weak g6 square is yours.
6.dxe5,fxe5 7.Qxd5,Qxd5 8.Nxd5,Bd6 9.Ng5 already targeting his holes with your knights. Notice how black needs to react to you and he has permanent weaknesses whereas you have none really.
7...e4 simply wins a piece for black.
8...Qc7 is easily refuted with 9.Nxd5 and black can't recapture due to the pin. 9.Nxd5,Qa5+ 10.Nc3 and black has nothing really and just lost a central pawn.
12.axb5 and black loses yet another pawn while you gain a tempo. 12...cxb5 13.Nxb5,Qd7 14.Bxd5 and black should resign here. Black won't take the bishop due to the royal fork on c7.
13.Ng3?? allows f4 whereas 13.Ne5 cuts off the queen's communication with the f4 square while giving your knight a permanent e5 outpost. An f5 + h5 combination is usually horrible, g5 and g6 are too weak and this should raise an alarm to you.
14.Ne2,Bxf3 15.gxf3,Bg7 16.Nf4 and the g6 pawn is your obvious target. with Rg1 it'll go down easily.
Did you make large mistakes? We can already conclude definitively yes indeed! Don't be discouraged, because even world champions walked into forced mate before (such as Spassky against Fischer)
I had my first victory against a friend of mine i have lost several times before. It was a online game here on the site, with one day moves.
I was just wandaring where I (as a white) did some mistakes. I feel i had the upperhand althrough the game. And when he opened up his defence on Kh6 by moving his bishop on move 16.
I also feel he did a mistake by moving his Qe7+ on turn 22. instead of retreating his king too the queen side. Where i had fewer pieces.
The only mistake i can see is not walling up my king early enough, but i kinda used it as a bait on turn 22. And my opening was kinda weak. (Haven't learned to optimize my openings yet.
I was just wandaring what people who have played this game abit longer then i have, Has to say about this match.
Did i as White do any large mistakes? and where did black fail?
(sorry for bad language of wrong notations. I just started playing chess for full 2-3 months ago. Me and this friend just started recently to play here on Chess.com. he played alittlebit when he was younger )
