Aloha Reb,

You see that's the problem right there you think this a "Game of words" here! He was asking for advise and his words were instead of the chess game he posted is what your keying on!

I normally do not post much here but seeing the reaction you personally seen to think its OK to do what your doing, Its not!

We read what you have to say, so get going and do what ever else you do in your spare time. we have nothing to learn from you in this thread at this time!

Mahalo for your inputs Brandon is aware he has to be careful how he presents his ideas as some folks rather lecture about the words then the topic of the chess game he posted.

By the way NM Reb I do not use books or databases by choice hereas I feel I can test myself better that way, so my 1969 rating is based on my own play! Otherwise I be a higher rated player here at chess.com. Of course we are given much more time to think and if use that properly I would avoid making dumb mistakes as I do in some OTB games!

By the way its cool with me that use books and databases that way if i win I know you did your best with a little assistance! I have no problem with that and thanks for letting us know that! I'm cool with that! By the way Brandon also does not use database or books while in play! After the game he does compare his games with the chess.com database, when he plays turn base chess or LCP!

Who I am I the Windward Chess & Go Club Director where Brandon comes during the summer to play and learn and help teach our newer players! Also besides wanting to become a much stringer (proven via tournament play) hopefully he also want to be a TD and is starting a chess group where he is going to college. These are positive things and good for chess, what your doing here in this tread specifically is not good for chess!

So looks at the he posted between man and machine if you like and give your NM feedback, good or bad that's all he wanted! As for me I always go with the underdog especially if he on my team and helping me with my chess clubs!

I'm his (Brandon's) wing-man in this case, something I learn from being in the U.S Air Force and a few few movies!

By the way why is it your chess team agreed to draw without making any moves, what's the purpose of meeting if your not playing chess! Gee! this was an OTB event you wrote in one you own threads!

Mahalo for your time here and your remarks about the chess game this thread is about!

Frank Alejandro

USCF 1600, (based on a few games i play each year (normally as care-giving duties don't allow full playing of all games) USCF life member,

The reason the teams drew was that not a single one of the 8 players wanted to play under the existing conditions of the match, and the team captains supported their decisions. The conditions were awful, the venue was a sports stadium/complex in which there was some kind of football competition taking place in the room(s) next to the room being used for chess....with fans screaming, shouting, running back and forth, etc. Impossible to play serious chess under such conditions. If even one of the 8 players wanted to play we would all have to play but none wanted to play 4 hours of chess, under those conditions.

As for you and your chess Frank........you are a 1600 otb player and I dont see why I should play you, you are no challenge to me ESPECIALLY if you do not use the resources you are allowed to use here as I do. I would like to ask how is it possible that in your last 3 otb events you had bad results in all 3 and your 1600 rating did not change at all ?! Is this even possible ? Yes, I am checking on you too Mr B class player. In your last 3 otb events ( all in Hawaii and all 5 rounds each ) you scored 1.5 in 2 of the events and 2/5 in a third. You only managed to win 2 games in 3 events, both wins coming against lower rated players than you, one was even against a sub 1000 player ! You lost games and drew games with lower rated players and didnt win a single game with anyone higher rated than yourself and your 1600 rating didnt show any change at all !?  This seems very very fishy to me and I think if I brought this to the attention of the USCF someone might get busted for some shady deals eh ? Oh.... and your buddy brandon is deleting many of his comments in this thread that gives a clearer picture of whats going on here, are you sure you are aare of ALL his comments here ? I dont think you are, but unfortunately for him I quoted some of those he has since deleted so can show them whenever someone wants to know the truth about what he has said...... in fact, he attacked me ( and not only me ) first. All I did was expose him with some facts and he couldnt handle it and now you come to his aid. Perhaps you should be exposed too ?

I've repeated this over and over. You don't know me. You don't know my game. There are a wealth of other threads out there that I've posted, but y'all and NM Reb continue to berate me in a now pointless thread so you can feel some moral victory or sense of smug superiority.

Of course I don't know you. I stated quite clearly in my last post that I don't know and can't estimate your playing strength.

Where have I berated you? I made two posts consisting of an even handed discussion of how chess players in general over estimate their rating based on a fraction of their results, non-tournament play, and near misses.

I'm sorry that you have trouble taking a few words of caution about the difficulty of estimating a chess rating based on anything but the full set of tournament results.

I'll give you another piece of cautionary advice. Be careful who you accuse.

Reb, it states quite clearly on Frank's USCF ratings page that he has a rating floor of 1600. This means the USCF will never give him a rating below 1600.

Thanks loomis, I completely missed that. What does that mean his top rating was ?

Just checked, his best was a little over 1800. Thanks again for bringing the floor to my attention , I see mine is 2000 but I dont think fide has floors ?

Yes I am a Hawaii Class B player and at cxrchess.com I am 1562 player, you go ahead and dig! I have nothing to hide, I live in place where we have few USCF tournaments as Brandon has said and I am not claiming to be anything but a Chess Club director (a very small club these days (mostly scholastic players) as we meet in a Bookstore and Brandon is one of my club players (only during the last two summers), you chose to key in a few words and yes he attacked as your doing now to me, I make no excuse for my poor play in Hawaii and your welcome to come to our State Championship and see how you do against our lower rated players yourself, No free trip to come here! Cool You will be enlighten!

Hm, if you think noise is a problem all of Mililani G/45 USCF rated tournaments were outside and all sorts of noisy activities are going on, even our Royal Hawaiian band * others noise groups came while we played chess a feet away and the dragon / drum group practices there every week. So needless to say that monthly event was not successful. We had 4 USCF TD's, one just left for Japan and I just don't have time to go away from home much these days.

Anyway I will not erase my treads here as I have said nothing but the true and expect you will continue as you seem to enjoy doing what ever you call this! Pretty sure there is a phrase!

Hey sorry you were placed in such a noisy place for a team event, I missed that in your other thread! Hey try playing in USCF monthly rated chess tournament with the above mention noisy events next to you at a outside mall.

Why you should play me; you don't have to!! But you sure love to say things about people, guess that happens when ......

Oh well we'll let you continue as I'm sure you'll have more inside information that way, and please do dig you may learn a few things about why people help other chess players learn the game! And why I like to play you! But as you said you have your reasons!

Wait what? You can have floors and keep your rating no matter how bad you play?? Why?

This is done to help fight against "sandbagging" .

I find it funny with all of you who are accusing Reb of being a chess elitist or similar.

Reb has played me a total of 7 games, scoring 6.5 points. In most of his victories, I am quite sure that I was not much of a challenge at all, yet he accepted more challenges, even advising me why he was able to pull me apart and suggesting better moves.

I return the favor to much lower rated players, suggesting better moves and what-not, but when I want a challenging game or want to be competative, then I seek someone with a similar rating (i.e. plus or minus 150 points).

Just my little defense of Reb.
