Not Allowed to Perform Analysis

I frequently get this error while trying to annotate, edit or analyze my own games.  Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?  Could someone help me understand why I get this error or what it means?  It seems to occur at random

bensolucky

which is it in this case?

Marziotta

I think you should report it as a bug. There is a bug button if you are using on a pc or laptop, or write to the customer care. If you provide some captures the customer service can help better.

Another possibility is that you have an ongoing game open in another window/tab, and therefore you cannot perform analysis on any other game.

I think you need to explain more thoroughly what you are trying to do.

Are you using the website? One of the apps?

Are you trying to review a game or annotate a game for your library?

Please post an example of what you are trying to do.

For me it is when I analyzed one of my games and made annotations and different lines.
Tried to save it normally and got the error:

Not Allowed to Perform Analysis

Tried to save it to my library in a collection instead, looks alright but when I open the library analysis it is empty

bensolucky

Yes, that sounds like what I am experiencing.

I'm on a mac laptop using Chrome. I start with an analysis board and play out the moves from one of my OTB games. Then I get that same red error "not allowed to perform analysis" when I attempt to click SAVE. Or I should say, sometimes it works and sometimes I get the error.

Saving it to the library as part of a collection seemed to work better for me, but some of my annotations seemed to be lost.

I have the same issue. When trying to save analysis on a daily game I receive "Not allowed to perform analysis"

samthemonad

It's a bug, report it.

It might be related to some restriction on the number of saved analysis you can have (though that seems silly) - nevertheless, even if it is that error message should be more clear.

Tip: always clear your cached site cookies from your browser when experiencing unexpected site behaviors. If the problem is still there at least you know it's not old cookies causing the problem.

Don't you need premium or something like that?

This other post on the same issue provides further details on how to get an answer from a real person (agent). However, you will first be met by their AI chat bot who will try and answer your query. Good luck.

Yes I think so, I upgraded and the problem went away. But it's still a bug because:

A) The error message doesn't say "You need premium for this feature"

B) The documentation for the plans, doesn't say that you need premium to be able to save analysis.

why doesn't chess.com answer this question - I have the issue as well - seems if this is because I'm not a premium member then maybe better to be using a different site?

Yes, free accounts have limitations and that's one of them. The good news is that you can use their Library feature to save and organize as many games as you like... and just copy your PGN's and truck on over to Lichess, where you can analyze up to 35 games a day for free. Saves you about 30 cents a day, about the cost of a subscription to Netflix or Amazon Prime. Alternatively, you can just maybe send its owners, and its employees, Instagram cards... "Hey guys, I'm just shy of 6 thousand games now! Much appreciated! Keep up the good work!". Perhaps, hearts warmed, they'll give you a Diamond membership and waive the fee.
