Overlook opportunity to 'tactically' win a pawn?

Hi,

I don't understand the above tactics. If I were to capture the pawn on D2, would I not sacrifice my Knight to the King who appears to be safe and for no gain...

Any help would be appreciated to understand this. Thanks in advance.

If he takes, you fork his king and rook with Qe4. Therefore, he shouldn’t take to avoid loss of material and you just took a pawn for free. Feel free to reach out with any questions and I hope this post gave you the answer you were looking for. :)

That's what I expect from an aspiring GM, most appreciated. I take it you mean't Qd4. That's insightful and very helpful indeed, thank you for reaching out!

Yes. So sorry for the mistake. Qd4 not Qe4. I’m glad you found my insight helpful! Thanks again for pointing out my little notational mistake. :)
