I have started using the "adblock" browser extension software (not to be confused with adblockplus) in chrome to remove the offending elements that chess.com doesn't allow me to get rid of. horrible hack, but it works. I cancelled my paid account over this.
Play against the computer has been changed for the worse?

I finally found this as well. It is insane that you cannot click the icon of the computer level (the opponent) to bring up this same screen in Versus mode.
I assume that they have analytics showing that people keep on clicking the opponent's button in Versus mode.
It's also very unclear why it defaults to the highest level. Why not someone our own level, or a bit higher? Or just memorize the level we selected last time?
Once I realized that I could get set the level again I renewed my paid membership.
This site is good, but the lack of any type of support for paid customers is a significant problem.
