Delta-Devil: Wow, I really like the Bb3! move. I never would have seen that. Those kind of interference moves/sacrifices are the hardest for me to spot.
I do feel regret for not playing to win, but I think it was the smart move. Had I seen 43....Bb3!, then I would have done it, as there is much left play in that position. The line I saw at the time ended with his R+N against my R+N+B (and probably up a pawn as well). With that extra piece on the board, I didn't want to risk making any stupid mistakes.
In this game, I needed to draw in advance to the second round of a tournament. This is the only game left in the round for our group and I'm tied for first with 5 points and 15 TB points. My opponent is in 3rd with 4 points and 15 TB points. If he wins, he'll advance on TB points.
I blundered away the exchange for a pawn at move 16, but was able to hang on and make use of my passed pawns. At the end, I have the option of forcing a draw by perpetual check, or making a strong play for the win by promoting a pawn and forcing him to give back material. He was higher rated than I, but by his own admission playing poorly. Should I have gone for the win? What would you do?
