Poor openings don't matter, even at this level...

Here's a game I recently played OTB...My opponent did a pretty passive opening system that let me get an advantage as black. However, later the game became really complicated.

After this game (along with many others) I realized that the normal chess opening in chess counts for almost nothing at all (I would say less than 1% of the game, unless it is a very sharp and theoretical)

The game itself was super interesting too after the opening.

I am happy to present it to you and have you analyze it and comment on it...

If you took statistics of your games, you'd probably find that you score a few more percentage points with white than black. That is the case for me at every time control, from turn based to even bullet chess. Obviously this is only over the course of many games -- only once in a while would the color literally be the deciding factor in you winning. Having an advantage can often mean having less pressure on you, and with less pressure on you there is less of a chance of you blundering quickly, so it does have some value, but shouldn't be exaggerated. In this game having a lot of space kept you safe for a while, but of course the game did eventually get complicated and playing well in that situation was the most important thing. Nice game.

45...Qxf7 46 gxf7, and the problem is that both Rxf8# and Qg8# are threatened, so for example there would be no time for 46...Rxe2 47 Rxf8#.

Nice game.  Your opponent's poor opening choice led to a crushing space gaining position.  By move 26, he is nearly paralyzed. Showing a little more positional skill and patience, you could have slowly crushed your opponent.  When you have a position like this, don't trade off pieces.  Find better ways to restrict the position, improve your position and gain additional  advantages. Only then look for the breakthrough.  Nice work though, you got him in the end.

What do you mean at move #47 by " loses the game by mixing up the move order?"

In correspondence I have won 14/14 games as white. As black, I have had 7 wins, 8 losses, and 1 draw.

17...e4 springs to mind. You should be able to run White over.

In my little experience games like these are usually won by dangerous tactics that give your opponent counterplay so it's not always an easy win.

Thanks for the input!

Yeah I afree with bonesy now post game, but in the actual game I was nervous the whole time: I made the mistake of searching up my opponent and finding he was 2100+.

After ...e3 my advantage is still there, but it is lower than what I could have gotten.
