@ phylar - You already know what I'm going to say. ;)

t-taylor analysis.  No problem :D You just got ambitious with a bishop sacrifice a little early.  Should have pawned him.  Apologies for the bad pun.

I just recently started with correspondance chess (I think this was my second game of the three I've finished thus far).  So far I've had some good luck.  Despite taking the win on this game, I feel that my play could have been better; I owe a lot to a serious blunder by my opponent.  The time was 1 in 3 days.  If you're willing I'd love to hear some ideas for playing stronger.

Mjh1991 notes - Catch me on chat if you find you'd like some more clarity.  I left a lot of questions on the table in this one.

Thank you for the analysis.  Somehow, even reviewing the game I missed the mate in 1, I guess I had my eye on the queen.  Looking back I definitely agree that a4 would have been my strongest reply.  I think part of me was still a little bit weirded out by how my opponent was defending in the Ruy Lopez.  The opening is still new to me (picked up ~1.5 weeks ago).  I see what you mean about the gambit, but I would be likely to consider carefully before eating the possibly poisoned pawn; however, the idea of that continuation never crossed my mind, so thanks for pointing it out.

You are very very wrong heister.  7. Qh5+ is an amazing move.

First of all, the basic principles of opening are not solid, but rather flexible.  This player can dislocate Black's king into a very dangerous position, which far exceeds the concerns of any opening principle.  Had White anticipated that his Queen would be trapped, he would be in a far stronger position than Black.

I pay my due to a 2000 online rated player, but in this regard, you are very very wrong.

i have to fully agree with Sami here, imo this is a clear exception and Qh5+ is the best move and it's not even close. it would be even better to play it at move 6, though. :P

otherwise, not bad, it's nice of you to do this :D

I was black in this game, looking for an upset. I thought I had the endgame won, but was unable to convert. Frown
Was there a way for black to win? Am mainly interested in analysis after move 40.

interesting. if i am allowed to post my opinion, it really feels like a draw because your king seems to have no way to reach the critical squares - his bishop and g3-pawn do a very good job in holding you off.

give me some ideas on the following game. i was black. Thanks

Thanks for the comment SamiGhanem.

What I'm doing with this idea for theMaestro is teaching chess pedagogy.  A player needs to learn the rules before learning when to break them.  I studied Maestro's other games before posting!

It is very different to tell somebody what the objectively best move is in a position than to teach how to find it :D. It takes many steps and long hours.    Also, thanks for telling me I am wrong.  It takes some courage to do that doesn't it?

Cheers.

I hope you are all noticing that the comments are written  to the specific player.  If you are reading comments to the other players, you'll likely get more out of games that are rated around your skill level.

Thx.

varelse1, I'm going to answer in two parts.  The first is just a position from a game tringov vs stein in amsterdam 1964.  It is part of the fundamental chess endings book by muller/lamprecht.  The second is the actual position.

I didn't completely solve the problem, but I did create a loose chain for you, and give the only resource I could find in the pawn ending to help your thought process.  Good luck tightening the chain!

Richard - You're out of my teaching range.  I think you can see the peak of my range in the varelse1 game, which probalby didn't have an answer.
