I'm playing white .This is review of move 34 after i won the game with a checkmate .I didn't notice that i could have taken the black Knight with my Rook but mistakenly played  King c3 , that's definitely a blunder but engine rated it as excellent ?!

Now on to move 44 , Black has played ke7 but engine suggest that he should have played an illegal move cxb3 . There is nothing in the b3 square for the black pawn to capture and shift position.happy.png

I just started playing chess a month ago and I'm not a paid member , this is the free premium analysis that i get once a day . I'm wondering whether is this an extremely rare engine error or is it normal for engines to make errors once in a while ?

That move is called en passant. It is a real rule. This occurs only in the given situation.

Thank you 🤪 that's an eye opener. I'm sure that have heard of "en passant" mentioned somewhere recently but I thought it was the name of some opening gambit like "london system" or "Alekhine's battery" 😁 . Well, I hope that's the last rule in chess that I didn't know of.

What about move 34 ? Was it not really a blunder ? Chess is so confusing 🤯

Black is completely lost and moving the king to a better square while keeping the rook on an open file might be considered almost as good as taking it by an engine..

the excellent move is excellent and not a blunder because the black knight still CANNOT escape. Don't believe me? Just look at some knight moves. It still dies!

Yeah, that seem to be the reasoning ,engine knows the best 💀

neither of them are opening gambits

@alpha_zer000 :

He knows that this not an opening gambit, but he thought that first!

En passant is important. Now that you know of it, you may wish to read up more about it. There are rules around castling you may wish to read about, as well.

As for the move Kc3, that a look at the "score" beside the move and compare it to "score" of the best move +58 v +60. You can read up about what these numbers mean (they aren't too important for you at this stage); however, the difference between moves at this point in the game, 2 out of 60, means your move is still considered excellent by the computer. It is good that at this stage of development you are reviewing your games and asking the questions that you are. Good luck.  happy.png
