Queens Gambit

Ok, my opponent resigned after I castled, it was my first time testing out the Queens Gambit and I was just woundering if I played it properly and if there might have been anything better I could have done better. Thanks.

your opponent tried to hold onto the one pawn in the queen's gambit accepted and that is considered a mistake because in order to hold onto the pawn, black must give up a lot.

or at the very least Black will have a weak Queen side for you to take advantage of.
WeStIRL

Aaaah. Thanks alot. Now I understand how to exploit people who want to back up their c4 pawn! But wouldnt this sequence be even better? Correct me if Im wrong.

WeStIRL

@AnthonyCG

Thanks your advice is appreciated!!!

SalviaDivinorum

Just for your further games: 3.Nf3 it is considered better than 3.e3, because it prevents 3...e5 Smile

Loomis

Garrison, 3. e3 is perfectly fine. White has a fine position in the line you showed.

WeStIRL, your line in post #4 is good for white, but black didn't play the best moves available. You always have to expect the best moves from your opponent. The line given by  AnthonyCG in post #3 is good against black's best responses. Look carefully at the final position, white will win a piece!

SalviaDivinorum

I didn't tried to say that e3 isn't fine, it shouldn't sound like that. I just wanted to show some more black responses, e5 that is, and their continuationsSmile

Thanks for all your help guys! I now have a greater understanding of the queens gambit!! But now I have to study to see how to play when they let the pawn go and play queens isolated pawn as Carrion showed me.

Now I know how to crush anyone who tries to back up their up their pawn!!!

Thanks again!!!

OMGdidIrealyjustsact

Actually there is an even better way to prevent your opponent holding onto the pawn

Loomis

OMG, that line was given in post #3 of this thread.

WeStIRL

I just thought of a continuation for isolated queens pawn

john0h

Can you explain why 6. ... f6 is preferred to 6. ... Nf6?

WeStIRL

@John0h

Sorry my mistake your right.

BigAlex

80% of the people who accept this gambit ( in my current Blitz level), try to hold this pawn. Just Applied the lessons learned here and had 2 wins whith white in a row (13 and 14 moves respectively). Crushing!

Whoa (those little helmet dudes again).

I think the bishops look like knights. I keep getting them confused. =/

I wish there's an option to see diagrams only with the pieces that we choose and not all the pieces others choose. Is there one ?

Loomis

Kind of. I wrote this in the suggestion forum recently. In a lot of diagrams there is an analyze button below the move list. This button will open a new tab (or window) where you see the game on a board with your preferences and can look at variations. Click on "Game Editor" before trying any variations on the board.

In my opinion, it's not an ideal solution, but at least it's something.

TheOldReb

Thanks Loomis.

After you put your queen on f3, black's response would be knight on f6 preventing the mate and developing the knight. I think that's the best response for black.
