hi, your profile pic reminds me of someoneLaughing. I personally play the KID but to be honest its very hard to play against stronger players because you might end up in some very unpleasent positions. when you like attacking and have time to put some work in it i would play the KID. Semi slav is easier to play imo and saver.:)

Some lines of the semi slav are as complex/double edged as the KID . If you want a safer slav play the czech lines : 4... dxc4     Smyslov preferred this line most of his career . I play both the czech slav lines and the KID but face the semi slav a lot as white and am thinking of playing the black side of it as well ....

yes there are some complex lines but not that many i think. white has some choices but they are limited. In the KID white can play sooo many different variations.

I agree Till that white has many more choices ( good ones too ) against the KID , which means a LOT of work for black ! I use the KID when a draw won't do and I must win and the slav if a draw is ok . This approach has served me well . I sometimes play the gruenfeld as well in must win games .

So what about i study semi-slav (going for Meran lines and Botvinnik line as well as exchange slav/QGD) until I reach like 1900 and then switch to KID because its more complicated? or would I be better off studying KID from the beginning because I treat all of my games as must win games
