I would like to suggest some kind of program that lets you play either against a human opponent or against the computer and analyses the game while you are playing. The computer then subtly adjusts the size of the pieces in accordance with the quality of their position/tactical potential, etc. In would be possible to turn off this feature for the computer or either human player. I think this would assist players in developing an intuitive grasp of where to put pieces during a game.

Interesting. A variant that I think newer versions of ChessBase software (Fritz?) include is a "Hotness" meter that indicates how critical (tactically potent) a position might be .. to help train a new / relatively undisciplined player to slam his brakes and really spend time on a given position ... or even better, learn to get a sense of danger over the board.
