This puzzle is not solved for over a THOUSAND years!!!

You cannot move the pieces.

The queens can only move DIAGONALLY and ONE square at a time.

This is the hardest puzzle!!

Clue: 1. Kb4

b3nnyhaha

if queens can only move diagonally one square at a time then checkmate is impossible, and this puzzle is moot is it not?

GMVillads

It is a old shatranj puzzle, shatranj was a chess like game. The Queen is a Fers and move one square diagonally. Is stalemate is Winning?

franknstein

If queens can only move diagonally one square at a time, then Ka2 immediately wins the Black queen. However, checkmate isn't possible.

howto solve this puzzle yuan chi or cheng??? it is impossible

chesswiz625

With the constraints of the queens moving only diagonally and one square at a time, there is an insufficient number of pieces for checkmate (considering replacing the queens with bishops would still yield a stalemate). The solution is that there is no solution. That was really easy.

It is possible:D But if u move Ka2 and captures the queen, there will be no way of check mating! The answer is the black king at h8, the black queen at h7 or g8,white queen at g7 and the white king at h6 when the black queen at g8 . While the white king at f8 then the black queen at h7:D

You cannot move the pieces.

In other words, 2 obvious signs that the puzzle is unsolvable.

If I look at your first rule, it says the queens can only move DIAGONALLY. The queen move you just made is illegal based on your rules. Additionally, there is absolutely no way of forcing black into that position.

Maybe there is a solution, but I can't understand how white will force black king going on the corner (h8) if he can capture the queen ! Black will every time (I THINK) one move available with his queen. If white tries to check him from a file (eg the e file) he will block the check with the queen, or move the king away, without going at the corner.

Here you say that white can't checkmate if he captures the "queen". But the solution here is says that white's target is to capture the "queen" ! What is going on ?? Here is the link:

White to move, White wins

al-Suli created a shatranj problem called "al-Suli's Diamond" that went unsolved for over a thousand years.[1] As this is a shatranj, the "queen" (counsellor) is a very weak piece, able to move only a single square diagonally. It is also possible to win in shatranj by capturing all pieces except the king.

That's why white wins if he captures the black queen !!

chesswiz625

With the new detail of it being possible to win with white by capturing black's queen, the puzzle (although impressively difficult) is now possible to solve.

franknstein

With the new rule in mind , it seems Ka2 wins. However, that makes things too simple, doesn't it?

Maybe there's also some rule like : you can win by capturing all of your opponent's pieces unless your opponent captures all of your pieces on the next move. That makes Ka2 not possible because of Kc4 by Black.
