Please can someone help with this position, I feel very lost.  Anybody know what could be going on in Kasparovs mind?

Kasparov did not play Rf7. He played Rf6.

The move played was actually Rf6, which of course makes sense, protecting the h pawn, and threatening to load the f file with major pieces.

rf6,it would be the move i would consider.

may be your just put the rook at f7 because no one would play at that rf7 may be at rf6
