i am good at chess when im playing someone who has not played in some time but when i play someone who has their "chess legs" i get in big trouble. i always seem to lose my queen fast. i have  been told to "see the whole borad" but i just cant seem to. do u have any tips about how i can improve my game?

If you're losing your queen quickly, that points to tactical weakness. As your tactical vision gets stronger, you 'see' most forks, pins, skewers, discoveries, etc. without even thinking about them. How can you improve your tactical vision? First you need to get good at spotting the basic motifs. "Winning Chess Tactics" by Seirawan or "Back to Basics: Tactics" by Heisman are both good for that.  Then you need to get good at spotting combinations (where two or more motifs combine). For that, the chess.com Tactics Trainer is a good option since all the examples are taken from real games. Another option is software like CT-B or CT-ART from Convekta or Personal Chess Trainer.

My favourite tip to people in your predicament is as follows: Don't let your king get checkmated.

It sounds like she's getting you in a trap. Study the game and develop a defense against it.

If you want a cool read, I reccommend The Tao of Chess, by Peter Kurzdorfer. It combines chess principles with popular Chinese philosophy!

Check out Chess Tactics Explained in English: A Complete Tutorial at www.chesstactics.org.  It will take you a number of hours to work through the material but it is probably the fastest way to rapid improvement for someone in your situation.
