Recovers the piece, wins a pawn, prevents black from castling and starts a king side attack, which is why they preferred

I am trying to learn so I pay attention to every game review. But sometimes the suggestions don't make sense.
In this game I had moved Bxd5 taking a free knight. But the review calls this a miss saying I should have done Nxf7 taking a pawn. As I see it, black's king would have simple taken my knight making it a trade pawn for knight.
When I asked me to show the "Missed Tactic" instead of replying to Nxf7 with Kxf7, it replies with Qe7+ which although it would have put me in check, it doesn't actually help black out and ends up with them being down material.
Is it really a miss to take a free knight instead of risking trading my knight for a pawn?
