I am sure that I made plenty of 'nooby/beginner' mistakes in this game and I am working on removing blunders from my game but nevertheless I thought that I had worked myself into a decent position by move 36. From here I struggled to capitalise on any material advantage I had and was wondering how I could improve on this? I am aware that my pawn structure was practically non existent. Thanks in advance! happy.png

some better moves --   8 B-b5 wins Black's Queen !     9 Qxb4 wins a Bishop   10 B-b5 wins Black's Queen

I prefer 21 Nd7 followed by Nc5

I prefer 29 Nxa6  then if Ra8 then N(d7) - c5

as game goes, you need to push your "a" pawn and try to Queen it, ie;  41 a4 followed by a5.    Then gang up on his "a" pawn and win it.   then continue to push your "a" pawn for your advantage.

How would that help my case?

41 a4 followed by a5, you just want to queen that pawn, you can mop up the black a6 pawn and its 3 pieces against a rook, you should win by a knockout, but first stare hard at Bb5 winning the black queen early on!!! you can't go missing stuff like that

Agreed! Most games I lose after analyzing them I notice that I was in an incredibly strong winning position but I blunder/miss something! Working hard and thanks for the input! happy.png

It wins.

Could you elaborate how?

I see how now

As the ghostly one says, 33. Nxf6+ wins. It discovers an attack on his e7 R. If he defends the R with 33...Kf7 or Kf8, 34. Rxe7 Kxe7 35. Bxd8+ Kxd8 36. Nxh7 and Black is busted beyond hope. Just as bad for Black is 33...gxf6 34. Rxe7.

Edit: Dang. I was looking at the game and didn't see that you had responded, MrYev.

Thank you to all! Very nice variety of answers that simultaneously help with what I asked for and general tips for game improvement! happy.png

Regardless, thank you very much.

This is one of the hardest endgames. I have to study this one more. Tablebases say high chance of winning

EndgameEnthusiast2357

Oh wait there were several pawns, nevermind.
