vienna Qh4+

gimly,
was good to see a Vienna Game/Gambit because although I play the King's Gambit, I have never played any of the Vienna openings. It was interesting to watch you squirming around on the King-side, just one step ahead of the reaper. I won't comment on the theoretical side of it as my knowledge and experience of these positions is nil.
The blunder 18 Rg1 was miraculous in that your opponent didn't take it. I may have a partial explanation for why it occured in the first place:
When I play blitz I often place a piece on an unusual square (say a Bishop on g1) and leave it there for a while. Sooner or later the weaker player places a piece en pris on this Bishop's diagonal. It's like sometimes they don't "see" the board properly and "believe" that the piece on g1 is a Rook or something, their pattern recognition sees a ghost. That Bishop on f3 you obviously mistook for a Knight because that's what's usually there, happens to all of us, something to watch out for in future.
To the game:
14. .... 0-0-0 15. Rg1! looks good for White, his Queen is out of squares (missed your chance to kill the game early).
Other than that, you played pretty well and in proper Romantic style, good effort and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all of your comments, and lines. I should note, in the game on move six i said black was winning an exchange. Wrong: Black is winning a piece outright.
Prawn,
I think you've probably nailed the reason i played rg1 and the reason my opponent declined my shenanegans. I been through the game numerous times at this point, and i can't figure it out, considering everything else looked like solid (but somewhat passive) play.
I guess the point is, after Qh4, black will be under pressure to unravel his mess.
I wanted to post this game because i think it shows how white can retain an edge when black throws in a check on h4 with the queen in the vienna main line. I'll flag that move in game. I'd like to hear thoughts on the position that arrises thereafter. I should warn you, i have a horrible blunder that would have lost me the game had my opponant siezed the day, which has me scratching my head because it seems to imply that white is only a little better. Anyway, i thought there were places where some positions were crucial, and i just wondered what folks might suggest as candidate lines. Thanks and enjoy.
