Weak finish?

Hello everyone, I am posting a game I played this afternoon, because it is starting to reveal a worrisome pattern where I start strong and then almost let the opponent back in at the end. I won this game, but it took 26 moves when it feels like I should have closed him out much earlier. I would be interested in your thoughts. (As a rule, I don't post games I won, it makes one look like a douchebag, so please understand this is not some kind of subtle gloat, I am sincerely looking for feedback.)

Loomis

Saying it's not a subtle gloat is just your way of making it more subtle, right?

You  crushed this guy who left his king wide open, what more do you want? At what point did you let him back in at the end?

You did fail to win as quickly as you could have, passing up a checkmate in one move as early as move 19. ... Qh5#. Then again on move 20. ... Qg4#. Even on move 21 you have 21. ... Ng2#

AMcHarg

You had many opportunities to mate him much sooner, here is just one example:

Sometimes the best move isn't always the one you instinctively want to play, think tactically! Cool
Loomis

I stopped looking after you missed 3 mates in a row, but I looked again and it continues! You could have played:

22. ... g5#

or

23. ... h6#

Loomis

At move 7 you say you were trying to exploit the open king. Why not try to play Qh4+. For example.

7. ... Ng4 and white cannot stop you from play Qh4 on the next move. He won't be able to interpose with the knight on f2 because your knight on g4 covers that square. It looks like you're winning the h3 knight here.

I can't believe I missed so many. Thank you very much for taking the time to point those out.

@Loomis, I knew I was risking it by posting such an easy win, but as my missed mates show, this is a real problem in my game. Your guys' feedback was very helpful.

Thank you!

I would have been sorely tempted to move the knight from f6 on move 5. If he wasn't paying attention, Fool's Mate was a possibility on move 6.

@Bur_Oak, agreed. I was tempted as well, but with my king still uncastled, I was a bit skittish about moving it out too early. In retrospect, I would have done it. :)
