What can i do better?
I whould have played 10.Kh1 (getting out of pins and checks). Blacks attack wasn't sound, he should have castled short at least on move 10.
13... Bg4 was better (not losing a piece, not trading queens, keeping some pressure, at the expense of losing the exchange)
His pawn storm was desperate, no need to worry. It was nice how you shifted to the Q-side (Nf3-d2-b3). Black could have defended better, but a draw was almost impossible to get since he had a bad bishop in a closed game and you had a knight and an extra rook.
@Adrian :
Thank you for the feedback.:)
1) I should have moved my king to Kh1.I have lost a whole bunch of games by not doing that before.But somehow,it always feels like wasting a move ingame.But it does take away a lot of potential from the attack.
2) Bg4.I did not see that.Guess i need to work on my board vision and tactics.
3) I actually thought moving his dark bishop out before playing d6 was a good idea.Too bad it got badly stuck.I almost always end up with one of bishops stuck in the back rank until the endgame because of the pawn either in d3 or d6 square(or e3 or e6) and the long diagnoals are usually blockaded.
3. d3 is slow and blocks in a Bishop. It does nothing to attack Black's center. If I were Black, I would have struck back immediately with 3...d5.
Dear Thia,
It seems you have a very good chess potential in chess, although you are new to it, as you said... Congratulations, not for the game, but for the thoughts in your annotations, it means you are taking the game seriously.
My advice is to hit into more modern opening line.... I suggest for you Bishop opening as a starter. You would feel home with it, regarding the previous game.
Good Luck
why not 3.bc4 ithink this move is better.
by the move bg5 you pinned a knight then why did u give your bishop against a weak pinned knight.
usually in this position the best is to play kh1.
good game.
@Thia
"1)" fleeing from danger with Kh1 is a boring move, but not wasted.
"2)" your move was good, your opponent needs to work on tactics more.
"3)" his Bishop was still bad even though it's outside of the pawn formation (not as bad as if it were inside) For the problem bishop on c1 or f1 (e3, d3 blocking it respectively) you can fianchetto it (b3>Bb3, g3>Bg3) or play e4-e5 (d4-d5) if you have the chance. In your case Be2 does not look so strange since it keeps Nf3 out of possible pins.
@DrSpudnik : Will try that next time.If i attack the center,i usually do that by pushing either the c or f pawns(depending on the direction his pawns are pointing,and then recapture by bishop if he takes the pawn,or just capture towards the center if he doesn't.But that does affect the development of my knight because i either have to delay playing Nf3 or Nc3,so that the knights don't get in the pawn's path,or drive the knights someplace else)
@moemen13: Thank you.Will defi have a look at bishop's opening
@KHOSROV : I didn't want to do bc3 because,if i have to play d3 at some point,that cuts the bishop from the other side of the board,Atleast not while the center is locked down.As i was intending to castle kingside,i thought i might need the bishop around to defend the pawn in front of the king.I usually feel uncomfortable trading activity for safety.I didn't want to move the bishop out if i can't put it back to safety easily.But i hate leaving a piece in the backrank doing nothing.So the bishop stuck in the back is usually doing some defensive job.
I was intending to exchange the bishop for the knight,to get rid of one of the defenders of d5,as i wanted my knight to move there.The knight was pinned,but isn't that pin easy to break?(normally,i see ppl respond to bg5 or bb5 pin by pushing the h or a pawn or use their bishop to cover the knight and break the pin)
@Adrian :
Yeah,i noticed his bishop's activity dropped to zero after it got out.
@paulgottlieb :
1) Noted.I keep hearing 5) Bxf6 is a bad idea and i like Nd5 idea.
2) Yeah,Qd2 was a useless move on retrospect.But at that point i was trying to do was attack his queen(atleast,exchange).What i failed to see was that he can take my bishop with his knight,which made me look silly.If that had worked,i would have still been a tempo up and could have forked the rook.But as you side,he handed me the fork anyways.
