What does these almost similar lines mean exactly?

Hi everyone!

For analysing my games, I use Arena GUI and Houdini engine. I adjust it so as it spends 30 seconds for each move, but I have problems interpreting the analysis. For example, it says,

13. f3-f4

So, it repeats the same candidate moves several times, sometimes just with a single move! I can't get what it is for, I need just one or two best variations as complete as possible. Could anyone help me get what happens?

Thanks,

Faarian

Hi

Your main point is true, that it is up to us to imporve our chess, but is totally irrelevant to my question which is about a definite feature of some software:)

Best

Faarian

@Im prfen

Many thanks for the point about PV mode, it helped me a lot, however I haven't found that how I can get rid of the history of analysis and have only the last analysis:)

Well, this is the way Arena displays the engine output. You can rightclick the variations window and pick "aggregated view" which is probably a tad too Spartan.

Give other UI's a chance, e.g. ChessX, or SCID. The engine can be fully configured, and the variation display is cleaner.

There are also commercial programs, like Chessbase, which I do own (an older version, 2009 Premium), but I do not really like the user's control over the engine.

Take a look at one of my posts. I used an engine before posting it. It also contains some excess garbage. http://www.chess.com/forum/view/game-analysis/please-analyse-and-give-advice
