What else could have white done in this game? And why go pawn hunting?

In this game, Stockfish went back and forth between ~.5 and ~1.5 for white. Does this seem normal in this game, or should white have considered other options throughout the game?
One other thing I was wondering was at the end when I played 20. c4. Stockfish shows Bxa7, but I wanted to open up files. I wasn't expecting the easy win. My play would have been to bring the rooks to an open d file after some exchanges in the center.
