hi i'm a beginner player. I was wondering if you all could help me analyse this game that i lost. Thanks all! Laughing

:D

It's a very difficult game to analyse. I'll start with piece protection. On your third move you gave your opponent a free pawn. Don't you care about your pawns? They are like children needing guidance and protection yet you let the little one be kidnapped for no reason?

I'll have to stop there. It's already getting too emotional for meCry

SephieApple

Surprised I've never seen them like that...i'm sorry pawn...

Then on move eleven, you decide to let another little one be trampled by a horse! Why? I'm reminded of poor Bonnie Blue from "Gone with the Wind". Her death ruined any hope of Scarlett and Rhett ever being happyCry

oh! i'm not sure i realised that that would happen...Surprised

With children, we have to be cautious and alert. At any moment an abduction may occur. After you lost another child on move eleven, the best thing to do was to at least refuse the black king any right to castle. So on move twelve why didn't you take the bishop on d7 with a check as well? You didn't. Instead you let your bishop on a4 just sit there ready to be taken by black's bishop. Black did not take it, but it caused all the people in your kingdom to become suspicious of you. They questioned why they were protecting you when you refuse to protect them!

Thanks very much paulgottlieb! I'll try to look for those checks. trysts hmm...i did think i was protecting them, i'll have to look harder next time.

In general you seem to completely ignore your opponent's pieces and only look at your half of the board while playing.  Anyway try to look at it a different way... none of this "tempting the queen" stuff.  Lets look at threats.  When you can spot threats as the occur (and not undefend threatened pieces or move pieces onto attacked squares) then you'll jump many hundreds of rating points.  Yeah practically speaking this takes time but it's what you need to work on.

I understand, SephieApple. Sixteen people rely on you to help them survive in this world. That's a lot of responsibility on your plate. I think it was Judit Polgar who said, "Show me a good mother, and I'll show you a good chess player".Wink

3.e4 is a viable move.  After 3...fxe4? you should have played 4.Qh5+! and then Qxd5 with a better position.

3...dxe4 was the correct capture, when it becomes a gambit after 4.f3.

When asked why he so rarely sacrificed pawns, Yasser Seirawan answered "I don't like to give away my children!"
