It is normal opening for 1500 rating and there is no problem to play it, after Nc6-e5 f2-f4 Ne5-g6 white is overextended and with 1500 level of play maybe he just feel comfortable with such position, it is hard for white to prove his little advantage in practice, and black can try counterattacks and so on.

???

after f4 white is hardly "over-extended".

Maybe he had to go to bathroom, for very very long time?

For those that can't be bothered to follow the link:

Me: 1 e4 Him: resign

Tournament game, no less....

Avatar of planeden

well obviously he didn't want to end up flamed in the threads for not resigning, though it seems his plan backfired.

i am going to guess that it was one of the "i don't like this opening so i am going to abort the game before it affects my rating" deals.

that's what laptops are for.

Maybe no wireless in bathroom?

Avatar of planeden

how could you live without wireless in your bathroom?  he should definately move.

I've taken on too many tournaments at once and found myself choosing between spending no time on my moves (thereby probably losing all my games) or resigning some mid-game (thereby possibly winning some)...

Maybe that's what happened here...

i just dont get davidwemyers's position, there is a large amount of time to move for each game

Haha! Maybe he was totally expecting a d4 opening....? He had studied and analyzed his head off for a d4 opening and all of it's continuations? You played e4 and blew him out of the water, he broke into a cold sweat, felt the pressure and hit that resign button.

Or maybe not, maybe just could not be bothered and was out of the Tourney anyway.

Why did black resign just after playing two moves. He should have played the pirc defence then especially after playing d6.

Playing the Pirc against the computer I did once accidentally play 2. ... Nc6, when I actually meant to play 2. ... Nf6 (wine-assisted). I went on to win the game. I struggled mightily playing conventional Pirc lines against the wretched machine

@ Ry888

I get where you are coming from, but just as an example I might have a busy 2-3 days at work that I didn't expect (busy being 12-15 hours). If I played a tournament that started several games at once, and was too tired to think about any good moves for one night, then I could come home tired the next night, with only an hour or so left on my time to make six or so moves.

I'm not the best player, so I probably take longer to think than the average player as well... :)
