Your biggest mistake was probably move 19. ... Ne7 when you should've played 19. ... Rxd1. You ended up down an exchange by giving up a rook.

Yes shoud have taken the bishop with the queen not the rook to avoid the pin and try to force the exchange of material after being up a piece.

also could have gone a pawn up a couple times in the opening.

also a simple castle instead of knight e7 would have lead to a favorable exchange. Knight was well placed(before).

before you move a piece...

look at the whole board

  1. for free pieces.....
  2. for your pieces that are free for your opponent to pick...
  3. once no free pieces can be captured, think of a plan.. i.e. what can I attack easily ,etc...

then play loads.. good luck.

I was thinking 18...O-O would have given you some breathing room.

18. ... 0-0 wouldn't give black the upperhand by taking the bishop.

If black played 18. ... Qxd5 then 19. Re1+ could pose a problem unless black plays correctly. Seeing that black wanted to play Ne7 suggests that black would have some difficulty.

onehandgann
right castle for black would have to on move 19.  if castle on move 18 c4 saves the bishop and keeps pressure on the knight and black does not go a piece up.

and in the queen takes d5 line Re1 does not pose that many problems   The knight e7 line can work. If white continues pressure on the knight with queen e2 then white pins the queen to the king with queen d2. But yes that is very precise play. I guess if black wanted to avoid that kind of only move kind of play kf2 would be fine as well. But I really do not see much problems for black in the Queen takes d5 line.

Good points Onehandgann about 19. 0-0 and Qd2.

thanks   but I think your line was probably the best and easiest to understand. I guess the main point is he had three options to keep the game in his favor. I hope we did not confuse the guy to death.

and yeah there was no reason to give away the e pawn in the opening. I wonder what he was thinking there. Anyway If he likes playing a quick fianchetto in the opening maybe he should learn the modern or pirc defense against e4.

Ands if 3. Queen e7  Bishop b5 and things get a little ugly for black. I thought the same thing at first   to win back the pawn but looking at it more it seems to give white an attack on the weak c6 square. I also thought Bishop takes knight on move six worked to win back the pawn  with Nxe4 but that fails too to queen d5(double atack on the knight and rook). Seems now his biggest mistakes were just the opening(not defending the e pawn) and move 19 which we discussed a lot.

dam  I mean queen e7 then d4 then c6 then bishop b5. I guess f6 works. My mistake  Ok Ill shut up. enough.
