I have never heard a lot of people say that chess in general is brilliant. Please provide at least a few quotes from the "so many."

That said-- there are certainly brilliant moves and brilliant games of chess. Historic chess tournaments sometimes recognized them. I had Fred Reinfeld's book, "Great Brilliancy Prize Games of the Masters."
