WHY PEOPLE RESIGN SO EASY

Sort:
vac4444

Chess is a game of hope i guess... when a person has even one single pawn i dont think he should resign just because , still that means it could be promoted to queen ... MASTER PLAYERS UNDERSTAND THIS ! not the beginners ... these make them lear tohave patience with the full game !

Really funny. Some argue about fast resigns, others about "why the hell doesn't he resign?!". ;)

That position is very much resignable for black.

I don't give up on a position if I can continue to make threats regardless of how minor they are.

Really? I'd rather play black against someone 300 points lower than me than someone my rating from the starting position.

lol. ... only players like anand know each pawn is equal to a queen ... so no question of resign  TILL THE END .... lolCool

Lovechess, sorry but you should resign when you are losing - players like anand resign and are almost never checkmated.

I don't have as high a rating as you do but I do like to swindle. If I have a resignable position but there is even the possibililty of getting a cheap shot in, I will continue playing. I noticed that sometimes players do not see the backwards capture of the Knight or sideways captures of the Queen and Rook or various types of pins and skewers so even tho I am down material but such possibilities exist on the board I will keep fighting. Sometimes I can get in a lucky punch!

There are reasons to resign or not resign. Fortunately in my previous correspondence games my opponents knew when it was appropriate to resign!

I resign when I'm no longer enjoying the game. This doesn't mean I'll resign at the same point in each game; it'll depend on my mood - my chess interest is not constant. I've resigned a few over the last month or so where another time I might've fought on a bit further, but, well, not in the mood. Meh.

Agreed. Heh. There was this one time i was playing a game with my co-worker during lunch, i had noticed he'd pinned my knight to my Queen. As i was thinking about an counter-combo (whereabouts i would check him, K moves, "unpin" my N with check, and win the bishop...or something like that) when in walked-in, the office sexy, young intern. Ack. Sufficed to say, you can tell i lost my Q by moving the N first! I immediately put down my King.

The problem with playing on in a losing game is that you are wasting your time as you will not learn anything.  Better to resign and play another game and try to learn.

Also if you keep on playing in a losing position you are wasting the time of your opponent and he may decide not to play you any more. [because, maybe, he values his time]

najdorf96

He being an beginner, asked me, "why?". (When there was still soo many pieces and you're an experienced player-surely i could beat him even a Queen down?). I simply replied, "ya got me, that's all. You 'out-played' me. It happens. Next game!". I proceeded to beat him up after work 9-0. Heh

I resign in correspondence games since they tend to drag on for too long but usually play out standard ones.

A good general rule I use is that if my opponent could blunder away his strongest non-king piece and still be ahead, it's time to resign.  It's an issue of respect, especially OTB.  Give your opponent the respect they deserve, because in this given instance they have beaten you.  Personally, I will NEVER allow someone to cheese their way into a stalemate against me, so don't play on hoping for that chance.
