I have over 1000 games as black in the caro kann and I could tell my opponent did not know the opening well or was just playing badly. No real threats, just trading down in the exchange variation. My strategy was to just wait for an opportunity to screw up his pawn structure then take an endgame.
then comes 14. Qd3? I didn’t have to think long here. Black has a good pawn structure with 2 pawn island and an easily controllable open file. …Qxd3 seemed like a no brainer, gives him a double pawn and black has a very nice position including an active bishop.
The game could have continued but he played pretty poorly and resigned. Would you do anything differently here?
