Third time's the charm when it comes to games to get over the 2000 mark, the first two times losing on the final match. It always felt like any time I was on a hot streak, I'd hit a cold streak right after and it always felt like I was playing like a 2300 or a 1500 depending on the day and even though this isn't my main game (that would be bridge - don't laugh) this was frustrating.
I've always played chess with the mindset that it's a game and the purpose of games is to have fun. This meant that I hated games that featured Snorlax openings (I'll leave that to your imagination). While I had purchased courses in the past, and watching a lot of chess videos I was never good at remembering openings and have never read a chess book (short of skimming a few pages in my school days 20 years ago), nor had I received any coaching. I'm 36 now, so for anyone who thinks they've blown it by not being a child protégé , don't let that stop you.
Still, reaching 2000 feels like a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I don't think I'm realistically going to get much higher without playing OTB and/or getting coaching. That won't stop me from trying however.
