A surprised player is half beaten! (I got my own New Year's brevity!)

Err... Yesterday (actually, on 30.12.2009., but I delayed the posting of this topic due to holidays) I decided to play a couple or two games of Live Chess (even though I said I wouldn't do it), since it was almost the New Year already. I faced e5 to my eternal e4, swiftly entered the Scotch, and decided to have some fun:

I hope you like it, and Happy New Year everyone!

Also, if you had any fun brevities around New Year, you can post them here!

Good eye with Qd6, you usually can get smothered attack/mate opportunities when Nge7 is play instead of Nf6

you made my day =)

My most sincere thanks to you all, I really don't remember if I ever got any better comments for a single topic!!! Smile Also, I played Nb5 with the exact idea of Qd6 on the next move!

The inspiration for the choking idea came to me from a trap I saw maybe a bit less than a year ago (I also got to play something similar, and I posted it in my blog, check the article on 'librilinemia'): 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Nd7 5. Qe2!? Nf6?? 6. Nd6# Try it out for fun if you want to! Wink

Qd6 was a nice find, i once faced 5... Nge7 in a live game and won like this

i used the pattern in one of Gserpers articles here on chess.com

Yeah. But Black had at least one better option on the fifth move, just like in my game. A player usually gets a strong initiative if such an aggressively-placed Bishop isn't kicked away in time. And it seems to me that players do that very reluctantly when it comes to fianchettoing.
