Breaking into the 1600 bracket!

I have been struggling to maintain a rating above 1600 for a few weeks now and today/yesterday I finally managed to get both my blitz rating and long rating (these are live chess ratings, please don't look at my CC rating, or for that matter, my CC games, they are laughable) above 1600.

I played a game against a mid level 1500 player (1545), beat him and am now above 1600 in all time controls! Time controls for this game were thirty minutes each, no increment. When the game ended I had about 3 minutes and my opponent had 10 seconds.

Here is the game. As always constructive criticism and analysis would be very appreciated. I have submitted the game to the on site computer analysis and am waiting on the results.

Thanks in advance.

P.S  Some of my annotations will likely be for the wrong moves, sorry about that.

The computer says that the knight could have taken the bishop safely, however I think my opponent (who had about 2 minutes at this point) was afraid to calculate the consequences and expose his king to an attack with such a small amount of time left.

Rd3 was the better move, maintaining a huge advantage.

Obviously, a strong win congrats on this and the 1600!

I remember the 1600 mark.  Next comes the 1800 one, because 1700 will come easily.  It took years, but finally, when I broke 2000, I really celebrated.

Good luck to you, brother!  :)

Hey Skwerly!

Well, I am in the low 1500s and have been trying to get my rating past the 1600 mark.  I was as high as 1575 before I dropped back down.  I say that is pretty good based on how I play only four tournaments in a year (over the board, not online).

I have been working for four months on improving my chess game, like solidifying my openings, to get ready for a state level championship in September.  It is a very long tournament:
