Different smothered mate

Just as White thought the checkmate by the Black queen was prevented because of 26. Nxh2...

the embarrassing 26...Ng3# came.

I have mated like this so many times in my life that it got boring. Now I always wish for some sort of pawn mate, or discovered checkmate or bishop and Knight combination mates.     

I'm truly happy for you MaxLange that this is now mundane for you, and that felt the need to tell us that.

The classical smothered mate is a queen sac on the back rank after the knight checking on f2. And I have done that many times, though it is still pretty satisfying in a game. This was an unusual combination to me. I did see the possibility at move 20...Nh5 (even though the analysis says that was a mistake), and it did rely on my opponent not seeing it.
