I beat Fritz 11!

Yesterday, I finally got my copy of Fritz 11, and decided to play a game against it. I set the mode to Sparring, and the difficulty to the highest.

I was easily beaten... -_-

So I decided to give myself a small handicap. I limited Fritz's search depth to 7, and removed the time counter. (In other words, I made one move every twenty or so minutes, while Fritz made a move every 5 or so seconds...) And here's the result. Tried my best to annotate, and comments are welcome :) (Oh, I also played the first two moves for Fritz, so that I could play the Grünfeld.)

Comments are welcomed =)

I want a cookie...

and where might I get a copy of this Fritz 11?

It sounds interesting. Is it better than chessmaster?

pretty cool, i also have my copy of fritz, but use it more for analysis, not so much to playing, it just to frustrating. now i might give it a shot

Good game.  Beating it sans the restraints would be truly impressive, however.

Hey Metris, well done! Of course a win against Fritz 11 is a good thing. Now to play without restraints right?! How much of a difference does the restraint make? I have Fritz 11 also but i never turn the restraints on.

Metris,

Restratint or not, there was some wonderful chess. Fritz lost when b7+ itself was missed at 34th move.

If I would beat Kasparov's head with a buttle of shampane every time he moves I would also beat him in the game... Fritz has highest ever rating in computer chess, I would doubt anybody here beat it in fare challenge.

good job. i beat fritz on sparring hardest

Can someone explain why on move 52 white took the rook with the queen instead of the bishop?  Is taking the rook with the bishop possible?

Avatar of balongsky

i've beaten fritz  10 times or less, played him probably around 10 thousand times though

I'm still using Fritz 9 ... I managed to beat him in sparring mode "very easy" and "easy" and in rating games with 1540 Elo (that's the lowest I can select) - sometimes :)

Maybe 47. Nf2! winning a queen. Unless I'm missing something.
